    Sunday, April 7
Sunday, April 7 marked the beginning of this year’s COLLABORATE Oracle users conference. Over 5,000 Oracle users, experts and
sign.jpgsolutions providers descended upon Denver to join IOUG, OAUG and Quest International users groups to kick off a week full of education, networking and making business plans.

The week kicked off with IOUG’s Pre-Conference Workshops, a full day deep dive sessions on a variety of topics, as well as IOUG's Strategic Leadership Program, a new curriculum focused on corporate strategy and evol
ving into an IT leader that runs throughout the week. "This program is the perfect way to take your career to the next level," said IOUG attendee Fuad Arshad. "I've really loved it so far."

The night also featured the IOUG's 20th Anniversary Welcome Reception, a party welcoming attendees and commemorating IOUG Award winners and members for their service to the user group. Big thanks to IOUG Partners Cisco and Netapp, who sponsored the party and also performed a congratulatory rap for IOUG (don't worry, we have video- we promise!).

More attendees arrived to Denver throughout the day, and are expected to turn out in full force first thing on Monday for the opening General Session Keynote from Aron Ralston, a day full of sessions and the opening of the Exhibitor Showcase.

    Monday, April 8

While Sunday saw numerous arrivals to Denver for pre-conference activities, Monday saw the official kick off of  COLLABORATE 13 festivities. The Oracle users conference began on Monday with a talk from Aron Ralston, a truly inspirational and brave soul who put his famous journey for survival (detailed in his book and the movie 127 hours) front and center. Attendees had a lot to say about his passionate keynote on social media:

Aron Ralston is the real deal! His speech today at COLLABORATE 13 got a standing ovation!

The remainder of the day was filled with the latest and greatest in Oracle education breakout sessions, bustling hallways, and the opening of the COLLABORATE Exhibitor Showcase. New and old friends alike gathered to explore the gallery of Oracle solutions providers for the first time this week.

    Tuesday, April 9

A blizzard.. In April? Turns out, there is no better place to be holed up inside during a storm than a convention center full of your Oracle peers. Tuesday at COLLABORATE 13 began with the highly-anticipated Oracle keynote. Oracle President Mark Hurd spoke to a packed auditorium on Oracle’s efforts to simplify the IT environment, and to work more closely with Oracle users groups in future endeavors. Following Hurd, Aviator and Daredevil Sean D. Tucker told the story of his high-octane life, complete with a crowd-favorite- exciting video footage of his acrobatic achievements. IBM also had a general session on Tuesday, where keynote Phil Francisco outlined the impact and future of Big Data.

As with Monday, the rooms were packed with attendees eager to soak up new learnings and knowledge from expert Oracle user speakers and hear great case studies. The hallways and social media were abuzz with excited and enagaged users- check out the IOUG Social Media Feeds page to see what they were saying!

Despite being busy, attendees were still able to kick back and have a little fun. An impromptu snowball fight with the famous Big Blue Bear broke out at high noon.

Wednesday promises to keep the excitement at high level (and, perhaps with a little more snow) with more time for the Exhibitor Showcase, more great sessions and case studies and more collaboration. Check out the COLLABORATE news and updates page for more Tuesday info, and photos and videos from the show.

    Wednesday, April 10
You came ready for a full day of technical sessions, networking and all things Oracle- and COLLABORATE made sure you got it. Wednesday kept more of the great Oracle user content that you love in steady supply as attendees went from session to session, gaining technical knowledge and expertise to advance their careers.

The IOUG Strategic Leadership Program concluded today, with Ari Kaplan's presentation "Preparing to Win." Kaplan and a host of other expert speakers spoke to the program attendees on getting a seat at the table with senior IT management and contributing to dialogues around corporate strategy. Kaplan will present again tomorrow at the IOUG Closing Session, where he will go into greater depth on his career in applying business intelligence and data analytics to MLB: Sports Analytics in Action. Stay tuned for a preview of Ari's session.

The Exhibitor Showcase saw a flood of traffic, and great conversations and activity for its final day open. Many COLLABORATE-ers took to social media to converse with both fellow attendees and exhibitors, and to wish them well on their travels home. The night concluded with the Urban Revival Party, a celebration for all COLLABORATE attendees. Under a Blood Red Sky, a U2 Tribute Band, rocked the house, while great local food and drinks were enjoyed by all.

    Thursday, April 11

After a full four days in Denver, COLLABORATE 13 came to a close with a half day of presentations and education sessions on Thursday.
Many attendees spoke glowingly about the final day of sessions on Twitter, and reflected on their positive experience at the conference throughout the week.

The IOUG Closing session, where former IOUG president and baseball statistician Ari Kaplan presented on how he uses data analytics and business intelligence in baseball, was the perfect capstone to a great week. IOUG wants to thank each and every attendee for making COLLABORATE such a great event. One of the consistent themes of what made COLLABORATE 13 great was the people. From meeting new friends in sessions and the Exhibitor Showcase, to catching up with old ones at receptions and in the hallways, Oracle users are the most important part of COLLABORATE 13.

We hope that you found value in this year's event, and plan on joining us in Las Vegas from April 7-11 in 2014 for the next one. Keep up with your training by attending IOUG's Online Education events in the meantime, and read updates on the latest opportunities to advance your career by following @IOUG on Twitter and reading the 5-minute briefing e-newsletter.
